The ITOPS Award
The ITOPS award is a double-certificated and nationally-recognised qualification that has full British Chambers Of Commerce accreditation. It has been achieved by many hundreds of exporters, importers and freight forwarders. Its has been developed and delivered for over eleven years in close partnership with East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire).
It is an immensely practical qualification where candidates have to prove they can actually perform their job role to a high standard. The significant areas of international trade are covered in depth - including administration, documentation, Customs' procedures, despatching goods and ensuring payment. Over-riding "constants" throughout the programme are the need for Customer Service, Commercial Awareness and Legal Compliance.
Through a series of four workshops spread over eight weeks and including the possibility of airport visits and placements, candidates will learn the skills necessary to operate professionally within the workplace. Qualification is achieved by the presentation of an on-line City and Guilds portfolio of "proof" that they can do the job
The real and practical benefits for Companies whose staff have completed the award are as follows:-
Major freight rate savings:- One exporter saved £38k after a review of freight charging procedures.
Major duty savings:- up to a total of £250k per annum.
Better legal compliance to meet the demands of HMRC and other official organisations
Improved delivery timescales to ensure that customer demands and customer service requirements are met.
Better motivation and retention of valuable staff - "through knowledge comes confidence"
It is a development programme designed to test, enhance and improve the professionalism of all those candidates who work within the industry. Many references to its quality can readily be provided. The first 2020 programmes will start in January and take place in Chesterfield, Sheffield and Lincoln.
